Delete your Yanamino account
This page explains how to delete your account in Yanamino, the study app made by Atahan Caliskan, and what happens to your data.
Delete it in the app
- Open Yanamino and go to Settings.
- Tap your account at the top.
- Tap Delete Account and follow the steps.
If you shared decks, lessons or quizzes with groups, the app asks what should happen to them first (see below). The account is deleted at once.
Delete it without the app
Write to support@yanami.no from your account's email address, with the subject "Delete my account". If you shared decks, lessons or quizzes with groups, tell us whether to delete them or keep them with their groups (see below).
We reply to confirm the request comes from you. We act within one month at the latest, and usually within a few days.
Decks, lessons and quizzes you shared with groups
If you shared your own decks, lessons or quizzes with groups, you choose what happens to them. Nothing is chosen for you:
- Delete them all. They're removed from every group at once, and erased within 14 days. Members' devices drop them the next time they're online. Members keep their deck progress; their scores on any quizzes go.
- Keep them with their groups, offered if you're 16 or older. They stay, shown to the groups' Leaders as shared by "a former member". The groups' Owners and Admins can delete them or take them over. Any that no active group uses are deleted either way.
- In the app, you get a reclaim code, shown once. Whoever has it can later redeem it to become their sharer (Settings › Account › Redeem a Reclaim Code), or use it to forget the link or delete them. A lost code can't be recovered, and it expires after 2 years.
- A reclaim code is made only when you delete your account in the app. If your account was suspended, or something you shared was taken down in the past year, they're kept without a code.
If you don't choose, we delete them. When you ask by email, we don't delete your account until you've answered, and if you won't choose, we delete them.
Anything you made public is unpublished either way. With Delete, it's removed everywhere. With Keep, it stays only in the groups you added it to yourself, and leaves every other group and every library that got it from Explore.
Decks, lessons and quizzes someone else took over aren't affected.
What is deleted
- your account: email address, username, password and sign-in details;
- everything synced to it: your decks, cards, images and audio, progress, lessons, notes, quizzes and settings;
- your group memberships, join requests, invitations and notifications;
- your Explore ratings and downloads list, and your AI usage counts;
- organizations and groups you're the last owner of, if you confirm it. Their members are told.
The app also removes the account from the phone you delete it on.
What can be kept, and for how long
- Decks, lessons and quizzes you chose to keep with their groups: until the groups' Owners or Admins delete them, the space is deleted, or someone deletes them with the reclaim code. You can ask us to delete them at any time.
- A reclaim code's fingerprint, a one-way hash stored next to what you kept: up to 2 years. We don't keep the code itself, your email address or your account ID with it.
- Reports you made: kept for moderation, no longer naming you.
- An evidence copy of a reported or removed deck, lesson or quiz: until no longer needed, and never more than a year after a takedown.
- The record of moderation decisions about you: the full record for a year, or until its strike ends if that's later; then a short record (what we did, which rule, when, the item's code, whether it was automatic and who decided) until 3 years after the decision.
- A fingerprint of your sign-in, if your account was suspended or had a strike: a one-way code made from your sign-in provider's account number and your email address, used only to stop a new account with the same sign-in from sharing or making things public. Up to 2 years after a suspension or a third strike; otherwise until your strike would have ended.
- A legal hold, if one applies: when a report is about a child's safety or something illegal, when someone's life or safety is threatened, or when the police ask, we can keep the item, its earlier versions and your identity (your email address, username and how you sign in), for at most a year, unless the police ask us to keep it longer.
- Backups: up to 7 days. Server logs, and our sign-in provider's log of account events: up to 30 days.
Nothing you made public stays public: it's unpublished when your account is deleted.
Delete what you kept, or forget a reclaim code
Use the code in the app: go to Settings › Help › Forget a Reclaim Code, paste the code and tap Continue, then choose Forget This Code (they stay with their groups) or Delete These Decks, Lessons and Quizzes (they're erased everywhere). This works without an account.
Without a code, write to support@yanami.no with their titles and the groups they were in, or send us the code.
Delete some data without deleting your account
In the app you can delete individual decks, lessons, quizzes and notes, remove downloads, and leave groups at any time.
